Reggie Bullock Launches 8 Week Youth Basketball Program for Summer 2027

June 26, 2026

From one unforgettable Saturday to eight weeks of mentorship. Bullock Island's commitment to Belizean youth is just getting started.

Bullock Island is proud to announce the launch of its eight-week Youth Basketball Program, taking place every Saturday from 19 June through 7 August 2027 expanding on the success of the resort's 2026 Summer Basketball Camp. Created by former NBA player Reggie Bullock, the initiative is designed to inspire, mentor, and develop young participants while creating greater opportunities for youth across southern Belize.

The program reflects Bullock Island’s belief that meaningful travel can create lasting benefits for local communities. Beyond offering a luxury island experience, the resort is committed to investing in the next generation through sports, education, and leadership development.

What Happened at the 2026 Summer Basketball Camp

Before looking ahead to 2027, it's worth understanding what made this year's camp the moment it was.

Over 50 children from across the Placencia peninsula spent a full day on Bullock Island for basketball instruction, team-building activities, and motivational talks from community leaders. Campers worked through the fundamentals: dribbling, passing, shooting, defensive skills before putting their training into practice through friendly 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 competitions.

Reggie Bullock welcomed every participant personally and encouraged them to pursue their goals both on and off the court. Local coaches Jordan, Gavin, Jamar, Devin, and Raheem volunteered their time and expertise throughout the day, guiding the next generation of Belizean youth through every drill.

The day went beyond basketball. Campers heard directly from community leaders including a representative from the Fire Department, Mr. Morera; Eric from Holistica; and Kerwin, Vice Chairman of Seine Bight, each sharing messages about leadership, responsibility, wellness, and community service.

Reggie Bullock summed up the day simply:

“While basketball was at the center of the camp, the greater goal was to create a positive environment where young people could build confidence, develop life skills, and connect with me and other mentors from their communities.”

Looking Ahead: The 8-Week Youth Basketball Program, Summer 2027

The success of the one-day camp has already inspired something bigger. Starting in the summer of 2027, Bullock Island will host an 8-week Youth Basketball Program a sustained, season-long commitment to the young people of the Placencia peninsula.

What we know so far:

Duration: 8 consecutive weeks

Schedule: Every Saturday, June 19 through August 7, 2027

Location: Bullock Island, five miles southeast of Placencia, Belize

Focus: Basketball fundamentals, leadership, discipline, confidence building, healthy lifestyles, mentorship, personal growth

Where the 2026 camp gave participants one powerful day, the 2027 program is designed to build something that compounds over eight consecutive weeks consistent mentorship, deepening relationships with coaches, and steady, visible progress for every young athlete who takes part.

Full program details and registration information will be announced on Bullock Island's social media channels in the lead-up to summer 2027.

Why This Matters for Bullock Island and the Community

Bullock Island has always been more than a private island retreat. From the moment Reggie Bullock purchased the five-acre heart-shaped island in 2022, the vision extended beyond hospitality toward something rooted in family, legacy, and community impact.

This is not new territory for Reggie. Through the RemarkaBULL Foundation, he has spent years hosting inclusive basketball camps for young people in the United States. In 2023, Reggie hosted the Foundation's inaugural Inclusive Basketball Camp in Atlanta, bringing together young people for a full day of basketball instruction and community building. The same spirit now taking root on Bullock Island.

“The RemarkaBULL Foundation celebrates the game and inclusion through the sport of basketball which unites us all. I was raised in a small town, so I understand the kind of impact a single individual can make in the lives of those in a community.”

That commitment to youth basketball spans both countries. In a single summer, Reggie impacted over young people across both the United States and Belize through inclusive basketball camps and clinics a reach that makes the 2026 Bullock Island camp, and the upcoming 2027 program, part of a much larger, sustained commitment rather than a standalone event.

This holistic approach reflects many of the same values promoted through initiatives such as the NBA’s community outreach programs, which use basketball as a platform for education, health, and youth empowerment.

The Summer Basketball Camp, and now the 2027 8-week program, is where that broader vision becomes tangible on the island itself. It is one thing to build a beautiful resort. It is another to open that resort's basketball court, the same one Reggie uses himself to fifty children from Independence Village, Seine Bight, and Placencia, and to keep that door open not just for one day, but for an entire summer season.

This is mentorship with real continuity. Eight weeks gives coaches time to see real progress in a young athlete's game. It gives community leaders repeated opportunities to speak into these kids' lives, not just once, but throughout an entire summer. And it gives Bullock Island a recurring, meaningful role in the community that surrounds it, one consistent with the work Reggie has already built through RemarkaBULL on a larger stage.
